NAMA five-tier residential tariff: 10 to 30 baisas per kWh by consumption band, plus meter fee. Oman 5 percent VAT applies.
How NAMA tariff works
Oman residential electricity is distributed through three regional companies under the NAMA umbrella: Mazoon Electricity in the south, Majan Electricity in the interior, and Muscat Electricity Distribution Company in the capital area. Tariff structure is broadly aligned: tiered baisas-per-kWh pricing across 5 consumption bands. Subsidized residents pay roughly 10 to 30 baisas per kWh depending on tier; customers on the Cost-Reflective Tariff (high-income residents and large premises) face materially higher rates. Oman applies a standard 5 percent VAT on top. Commercial, industrial, and governmental customers pay separate tariffs not covered here.
A typical 3-bedroom Muscat villa using 1,500 kWh in milder months pays an energy charge in the range of OMR 15-30 depending on band, plus a small fixed meter fee. VAT at 5 percent applies on top. Summer cooling can push consumption above 4,000 kWh, where higher tariff bands apply; budget plus 50 percent for peak hot months. Cost-Reflective Tariff customers (high-income or large premises) face higher per-kWh rates than the standard subsidized schedule.
