Oman Tip Calculator

Split any Oman restaurant bill - set the service charge, pick a tip rate, divide by your group. Built around Oman 10% service-charge norm.

Most Oman restaurants add a 10% service charge automatically. This goes to the restaurant - a separate cash tip is the surest way to reward your server.

How tipping works in Oman

Tipping in Oman is appreciated but not obligatory. Most sit-down restaurants in Muscat and Muscat add a 10% service charge directly to the bill - but unlike in many countries, this typically goes to the restaurant, not the server. A separate cash tip of 5-5% for good service is the most reliable way to reward staff.

Outside restaurants: round up taxi fares to the nearest OMR 5 or 10, leave OMR 5-10 per bag for hotel porters, and OMR 10-20 per stay for housekeeping.

Worked example

A bill of OMR 250 with the 10% service charge already included. Add a 10% cash tip and split between four people: service OMR 25, tip OMR 25, total OMR 300, per-person share OMR 75.

Quick formulas

Service charge = bill × (sc% ÷ 100).
Tip = bill × (tip% ÷ 100).
Total = bill + service + tip.
Per-person = total ÷ number of people.
