How the hourly rate is calculated

Annual salary is divided by the working hours in a year. Oman Labour Law sets the standard at 48 hours per week (eight hours × six days), giving 2,496 hours a year. Many private employers use a 40-hour week, giving 2,080 hours a year. During Ramadan, hours reduce by two per day for observing Muslims.

Worked example

A monthly salary of OMR 15,000 on a 40-hour week gives an annual figure of OMR 180,000. Divided by 2,080 working hours, the base hourly rate is OMR 86.54. On a 48-hour week, the same salary works out to OMR 72.12 per hour.
